Unfolding sheet work
Hi , I've designed a boat hull using PE , to be built with bent plywood . I now want to unfold the design so I can draw the individual pieces on flat sheets. Are there any ways to do this in PE , or is there an application that I can use with STL files that I can get a demo of ? So far I've only found plugins for other software or using dxf. files for sheetmetal unfolding.Any pointers gratefully recieved.

Re: Unfolding sheet work
The sheet metal functionality was not added to Modeling Personal Edition, so the flat pattern views cannot be generated.
STL files contain no planes, cylinders, b-spline surfaces, etc. It is made up of polygons that can be used by Rapid Prototype machines. I have seen some CAD systems that load STL files, and can attempt to convert them them to usable data, but I was not impressed with the results. |

Re: Unfolding sheet work
Thanks Mike , I think it might be beyond me - I've found TouchCAD which will unfold , but doesn't like to work with .stl or .vrml files , it wants a simple points file , so I've been trying to export .stl and convert to something simpler but as yet no luck...
