Importing Files

Hi,

I have 12 pages of tables and text in Excel that I have to recreate in Drafting 2007, is there a way for me to import those files and save time?

Thanks,

Virak

Re: Importing Files

According to CoCreate's website this can be done under "OLE Objects" that allows embed documents such as Microsoft Excel, however I can't find this function.

Re: Importing Files

I believe that functionality was added in the 2008 version and is not in 2007.

Tom
The info I found was under the 2007 version: http://www2.cocreate.com/products/Drafting-Details.aspx

Under "OLE Objects".

Re: Importing Files

You can import OLE objects from the Insert menu in the main toolbar at the top (similar to the Microsoft Office suite).
  1. Click Insert, Object.
  2. Select Create From File
  3. Click Browse... the select the Excel file
  4. Check Link if you want changes to the Excel file to be reflected in the drawing
  5. Click OK
Once inserted you can modify the inserted objects from Insert, OLE.

I have not used this much but did a quick test in Drafting 2007 and it worked. One problem was that black text imported as black and could not be seen on the default black viewport background. You may want to change the font color before importing.

There is some documentation on this in the Drafting Users Guide manual, but it doesn't provide much detail beyond what you can guess or figure out on your own.

Re: Importing Files

Thanks John.

You've led me on the right path, but it's just not working. I tried changing the font color, but it's only import the table borders (no text at all).

I also can't delete or edit the borders.

Ok, I was able to move or delete the OLE Object under "Insert > OLE", but still can't get the text to appear.

Re: Importing Files

Ok,

My experience so far: The Excel table appears (along with the text) when you create a NEW drawing, but importing the Excel table to an existing drawing is where the problem lies.

Re: Importing Files

This importing function seems to be very useful in most applications, but unfortunately not for me. I have to be able to edit the table within Drafting '07. So far, if changes needs to made to a table, it must be done in Excel and re-imported (which is unacceptable to management).

Insert > OLE > Edit --- has 5 functions and none of them are useful in editing contents of a table.

OLE stands for Object Linking and Embedding, so when you use this, you are embedding an excel file that is linked to excel. Using excel to edit it is what it's supposed to do.
