Shared Mirrored Parts
I would like to discuss about Mirror Part function.
Modeling does consider Mirroring in the following way: - if the mirrored part is identical to the original part then they are both shared - if the mirrored part is not identical to the original, then they are distinct. The mirrored part ignores all about its origin. But in some frequent contexts, and for the designer point of view, the original part and the mirrored part are linked in some way, so that some modifications should affect both. Electro-mechanical industry has a huge number of such situations. Let have a look to the attached sym.jpg and sym.pkg trivial example. Why not to consider shared in some way (ex: mirror shared) parts p2 and p2.1. P2.1 has been created by mirroring p2, but it's not identical to p2; p2 and p2.1 are just mirrored. But the hole dia 6 could be understood the same diameter on both parts and modifying one part should be reflected automatically on the other one. The user would have the choice to share or unshare depending on design intends. |

Re: Shared Mirrored Parts
Your enhancement is a valid request since other CAD systems have implemented this. Of course, those systems are in the parametric realm of things.
UGNX has the "CLONE" part/model function that is basically your request. You can CLONE an identical, mirrored or base part enhanced. Thus, UGNX mirrored can be identical or identical with a sub-area/feature that is different. Likewise a CLONE can be the same-as the original with an exception. Updating the original will in turn update the same-as, but not its exception attributes. I'm not really sure if CoCreate, being an explicit modeler, can handle this task. It may be possible or partially possible. One idea for just changing a hole size between the parts is to link the WPs together somehow. Thus, having the hole in one part on a WP that changes can in turn drive the data forward to the other part (same-as with exception or mirrored) WP having a hole that will be affected with the same size.
