Lightbulb DWG to .MI for charts

Recently I have received a bunch of charts with data in them from a sister company. The files sent were DWG.

While in Annotation on the MI drawing side, I tried Open > Import 2D with nothing showing up on my drawing. Next method was Open > DWG with no results either.

A box appears with the following verbage, "Data has to be migrated to Annotation structure. Press confirm to continue." I press confirm and nothing appears.

Am I missing something here?

CoCreate is at 15.00A

Thanks a bunch for reading this and any answers.

Re: DWG to .MI for charts

Could be one of several things, but two that come to mind are that the drawing might be in paperspace if coming from autocad. There is a switch in the dxfdwg settings for this.

Since you say it's a chart, the data might be in a format that the converter doesn't handle.

Post one here or send it into Support to have a look at.

Re: DWG to .MI for charts

Gary, good to hear from you. Thanks for the help with the corrput part and the sectioning the other day.

Well, the chart is only a bunch of lines and text. Nothing in the chart is driven by a spreadsheet nor calculated table data. So, being that simple, it should load rather easy.

OK, I'll call support and send in a file.

Re: DWG to .MI for charts

So DXFDWG.EXE is the program to run first before loading in a DWG or DXF file into the MI Annotation part of CoCreate.

DXFDWG.EXE is the executable used to translate DXF and DWG files to MI and MI to DXF or DWG. It is run whenever you import/export DXF or DWG in Annotation or Drafting. It can also be run independently but it opens an old fashioned text UI in a command prompt window. There are no settings available from this UI either. You have to edit the file DXFDWG.CON (which is located in the same folder as DXFDWG.EXE) to change settings. These settings will affect import/export in Annotation and the text UI.

Question Re: DWG to .MI for charts

Is there a way to convert Applicon Bravo .dwg files to .dxf? I have a bunch of Applicon Bravo files that we want to run in SolidWorks. Prefer to convert without running the old applicon software.

Back in my old Applicon Bravo days, there was an ability to convert from AB to IGES or DXF via the command prompt. You could also batch all of the AB files in that folder/directory to convert as well. At that old company, we migrated from AB to Pro-E. 2,600 files would take 2-1/2 days for the external program to convert them. If there were any files with problems, a certain file extention log file would appear or you can run a folder/directory list and compare the AB named files to the ones in DXF. If any were skipped, you would have to load the CAD program and work out the problem. 90% of the time, the problem is with cross-hatching.

It's amazing that your company did not translate those files back in 1989-1992 to some other CAD system. Today, AB is part of the drawing package that makes up Unigraphics NX. It was the big fix for UG drafting package side back in release 11.
