Opening STEP (Pro/E) file in Solid Designer
Hi hi
I am working on some 3D models with curves in them. I am trying to open STEP files (from Pro/E) in Solid Designer. However, the resolution I get is 10^-02 mm or worse. The native STEP file is 0.0006 mm resolution. What is the best way to open Pro/E step file in Solid Designer? Since both are under PTC now, is there a module that can do the conversion? Thanks in advance. |

Re: Opening STEP (Pro/E) file in Solid Designer
Have you tried setting the resolution manually when loading the file (this can be done in the 'options' screen when you select the file to load.

Re: Opening STEP (Pro/E) file in Solid Designer
Hi,
exchanging files with Pro/E is a very good reason to use version 17 of Modeling. In the past, I found importing STEPs from Pro/E a nightmare, because of what you describe. In version 17, you choose File > Load > Pro/E direct, and you can load Pro/E .asm and .prt files directly. The success rate is much higher than with STEP. Regards, Jaap |

Re: Opening STEP (Pro/E) file in Solid Designer
Hi Marten , I tried but loading in higher resolution results a lot of corrupted areas on the curved surfaces. Would need a lot of patching work.
Hi Jaap, using version 16 at the moment. Will tried to some local support to do some conversion on version 17. Thanks for your replies. |

Re: Opening STEP (Pro/E) file in Solid Designer
Another option is to go back to the source of the STEP file and request that they regenerate the model at finer resolution in Pro/E before exporting the STEP file. The default Modeling resolution of 10E-6 is probably best, but 10E-4 is usually good enough.

Can Pro-E export a SAT/ACIS file for you to load into CoCreate?

I try to import a pro-e file (.asm-.prt) in Modeling 17, but it lost the threads. Any idea? thank you.

Re: Opening STEP (Pro/E) file in Solid Designer
I think you have to enable this by going to Application > Modules > Startup and add Pro/E Granite to the startup.
After restart of Modeling, you should have the option Pro/E direct under File > Load > File Type. Regards, Jaap |

Modeling import the files but not convert the thread

Re: Opening STEP (Pro/E) file in Solid Designer
CoCreate Modeling Version 17.0 M025 or M030 contains a new option when loading a STEP file. You can use the original STEP translator or switch to the Granite STEP translator.
The granite version would be best in this case, as you would be using the same translator to import as was used to export. Thread data is not passed through any translator. That includes the granite interface. Only geometry will translate. |
