Win8.1 - WMWARE WKS 11 - OSD 2006 & Modeling

Hi,
my scenario is this:

my computer:
Dell Inspiron 7000 Series,
win 8.1 - 16 GB di Ram DD3 1600 Mhz - CPU i7 5500U 2.4 GHZ, Video Card : AMD Radeo R7 M265 Series, SSD 256 GB.

Virtualization Software WMWARE WORKSTATION 11, where I'm running my virtual machine with OSD 2006 & Modeling. the vm has 1 cpu dedicated, 128 mb of ram for video card and 250 gb of disk and 4 gb of ram. is a windows xp at 32 bit because was licensed on my previous computer than i was oblished to use it.

I think that like hardware i'm ok and the vm also is ok because i'm using the same vm on another smaller computer (i5 with for 4 gb of ram and no dedicated videocard) ...

I'm encountering this issues: when i use the vm is very slow ... the pointer on the screen is slow not usable...

I've found an optimization for that but is not enough declare system variable

SDPIXELFORMAT = SOFTWARE

is there anyone that can help me ?

So, the other solution could be uninstall win 8 and try with win 7 but is my the final focus :-(

Thanks
Andrea

Re: Win8.1 - WMWARE WKS 11 - OSD 2006 & Modeling

Hi Andrea,

When I upgraded to Win 7, I needed to run CoCreate in a virtual machine to compile our tools for older versions. I tried the embedded Windows XP virtual machine, VMWare, and VirtualBox.

VirtualBox was the only one that gave me good performance, and I'm still using it today to build our tools (though I'm still using Win7, not Win8+). I don't use it for working with Modeling every day, but it certainly gave me much better performance than the other virtual machines. I recommend trying it to see how it works for you.

Good luck! Please let me know how it goes.

Hi Andrea
Had you checked off 3D Graphics Accelerator? VMware, [VM], [Settings], [Hardware], [Display], [Graphics], [Accelerate 3D graphics].
