Hi All

I am helping to run ME10 on a companies old HP Visulise server runing HP-UX 10.20. I am logged into CDE as a user and click M10 on the bottom bar ME10 Begins to load but then stops with the error, Cannot connect. "Please connect a security device"

I assume i need an HP-HIL ID module to connect the tablet and keyboard though? The problem is they do not have any such device on site and nobody remembers one.

Is there any way round this?

Any help would be very much apreciated.

Cheers
Jim

Hi,
what is the background of the action?
Will you only see old drawings, export drawings in another format or work again on the SYSTEM?
Are there people who still be able to work with me10?
Without the missing security device you will not get to run it without support from PTC. The programm is well protected.

Hi Friedly

Sorry for the late reply. The Company only wishes to open and print old drawings from the server.

I have discovered the missing security device was a red MSU serial dongle and have contacted PTC for help. They said I need to get the hardware ID from the server so they can cut a new licence which I then need to somehow link to the lan card mac address or something and I'm unsure how to do this!!

They said they cannot help to provide a new MSU which I'm sure must still be possible, what do you think?

Cheers Jim

Hi Jim,
so you've not found the MSU?
A red MSU means that the original (yellow color) has already been replaced.
Another substitute is then not allowed.
ME10 under Hp-ux is for me a long time ago so I do not very well remember.
Probably someboddy else? ;)

Another idea for >The Company only wishes to open and print old drawings from the server.
Can you copy the drawings from the UX server to a normal Windows PC?
If yes
Does the company use eventually Creo Elements Direct Modeling?
If not I would install the freeware version Express6 from this 3d program.
Modeling and Express6 can open me10 drawings in the Annotation 2d section.

Download:
http://www.ptc.com/cad/elements-direct/modeling/express
Create a account, download the software, install and try to open the drawings.
Probably you have to rename the drawings without extension to xxx.mi
I wish you success

Hi, I have looked at the possibility of copying the drawings off the server to a windows pc and using the viewer. PTC could then cut a new licence and link it to my pc's lan card or something along those lines.

My problem with that is I do not know how to get the drawings off the servers scsi drives, is there some kind of adaptor scsi to usb or data??

Cheers

The old Unix machines are poor in connectivity with modern media as eg usb.
If the Unix machine is not yet in a Network with the Pc´s i should rather propose to go in this direction.
i found a other treat in this forum and if i remember right we dit it in the time of changing from Unix to windows as described in the answer of Walter Geppert.
http://www.cocreateusers.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2922

We had a first pc with a special lan-card that had a conector for the unix lan cable
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNC_connector
But i think the problem is not to find the hardware, rather to find someboddy who makes the configuration.
In our case this was also made by our local dealer.

Thanks Friedly, will look into that option and let you know how I get on.
