part visibility

as a new user I am probably asking a dumb question:( I have just started using direct modeling and find difficulty in keeping the part i am working on in view in the viewport! Any tool I am using or the part itself only remains visible for the length of time I am using the centre wheel on my mouse.
Can anyone please be of help?

Welcome to the group. What kind of computer are you using and what kind of graphics card? What is the operating system?

This sounds like a graphics issue. There are several ways to resolve this, but first the above information is needed.

Hi Tom,
I am using a Dell inspiron 1525.
I use proengineer wildfire 5/creo and Solidworks on it with no problems at all, so I do not think it is anything to do with the computer set up or graphics card.
I am finding it very difficult to get hold of a user friendly manual for this software , so if you where online I could access one I would be very grateful.
