What is an Assert error?

I'm trying to mesh a model and keep getting an Assert error and there is nothing in the help to cover this. Anybody have a clue to what the hell this is?

I modified the geometry and got it to work but the moral of this is it's another example of problems running a 10 year old FEA solver.
