Renaming SYSID

My compnay is in the process of changing over to SAP, we currently have a 5digit part number and going to a 13 digit part number. We are concerned with how to handle the changing of the old part numbers to the new part numbers within Model Manager. The drawings and parts will remain unchanged except for the part number.
Has anyone out there ever had to change part numbers within Model Manager? Is there a way to change the sysid of parts?
Has anyone used MYSAP that Cocreate offers?

We are ~big users of the mySAP PLM and Model Manager tools from CoCreate. The products do have some nice features to help facilitate what you are asking for. You can use the "Assign new sysID" function in combination with a user preference to re-associate drawings on copy. These two combined can help speed up the process of copying your 5 digit items and making new independent (new sysID) 13 digit model name parts along with copying the 2D draing making a new asscociate 13 digit drawing. You probably have to edit the drawings to update the title block unless you are using some text references. I won't kid you that its a little work, but the mySAP/MM tools help rather nicely in this scenario.

Doing a large changeover migration like this might get pretty complicated, depending on how you implemented the concept of part number and what other things in your process depend on it.

If the expertise to deal with it all doesn't exist in house, it may be time to call in some consulting resources to help figure out the best migration plan.

Our implementation of mySAP PLM (see frosendo's post above) has worked well for us. We do have some custom code involved which was tailored to our specific business rules and needs.

Why will you change the SysId of your models?
My understanding is that you need just to change the NAME of the Masterdata, isn't?
Model Manager does have a Change Name function built in that includes Change Note updates accordingly.

ludw is correct. There does not seem to be a need to change SYSID of models. You are probably only changing the NAME (part number). Renaming parts has been an ongoing area of development in Model Manager. The 2008 release handles renaming very well, including the change notes.
