Does anyone know how to change groups while in HP-CDE (Hewlett-Packard Common Desktop Environment)? Quite often when I am logged in as regular user I want to edit a file that requires root permissions. I need to change groups to allow this. The only way that I have found of doing this so far is to open a hpterm window and issue the unix command 'newgrp'. Because the 'newgrp' that I specified only applies to child processes I am forced into using 'vi' as an editor. That is not what I want. I want to use the CDE editor. I hate 'vi'! Can anyone help me on this so that my 'newgrp' applies to my CDE environment? Thank you

Yes, If your on an HP system, then your administrator (possibly yourself), can setup a file in /etc called "logingroup" and link it to /etc/group ( or something like that). This allowsa ll the groups that your in to act like your primary group. I think this is an HP/UX specific feature. If you need more details email me... -Chris
