Annotation:Breaks to shorten view of a long object (broken views) (Done in OSDM 2006)

I would like to be able remove a section from the middle of a long object, wihle retaining a live dimension(s) for the overall length, to better fit in a drawing frame. Ideally, round objects would have the option for an S-break, as shown in the attachment.

Have you tried the Broken View goody? After starting Annotation, enter the following on the command line to activate.

(load "am_broke")

You can then open the dialog from the Toolbox

You can view the limited documentation from:

<install-dir>\help\Common\documentation\goodies\Readme-0032.html

To use it, you need to create a partial view of one end, and a detail view of the other. The goody allows you to dimension between these two views. It will not create the breaks automatically, you must draw them using Geometry.

yes i am using am_broke, but it's not good enough. And you have to manually type in the length dim. And it sometime been forgotten to "update" the lenght, and thats not good.

I wish a function beside the standard and general view. like an real function in annotation.

Momentarily it's not possible to create broken views in Annotation (as it can be done in other CAD applications)

That is: not within one function.

It can be done using two partial views in combination with the broken views Goodie to place dimensions between those two partial views.

It would be nice if such a function would be available in one of the next releases (version 13.x or 14.0 ?)

well I've used it some time ago, in previous version(s) but within current installation on my system (version 12.1.3.0 & 13.01) the function (load "am_broke") doesn't work (obvious) anymore :( .
So I have to agree, a broken view functionality would be very nice/is needed
hopefully it will be implemented in the next release..

I just tried running (load "am_broke") in both version 12 and 13 of Annotation and it still works for me. After running the command I get a Broken View button in the Annotation Toolbox. What happens when you run this command?

Well if I interpret de function well, you make twice the same view (say frontview) and modify each view with the partial view fuction (once left part & once right part) and align those two views.

Enter the (load “am_broke”) command, and in the toolbox appears a function Broken Views, if selected you’ll get the option to place an out of scale / non referenced dimension over two views.

Well I can select geometry in those 2 views but after selecting obvious nothing happens / no dimension appears. :confused:

What I saw, that you can place such a dimension over two different views which are not equal (say a right view and a top view).

I made two views, a detail view and a partial view. run goodie 'broken view' lets me select view 1 and view2. After placing the dim, it disappears from the drawing. This goodies only works with two 'normal' views with me.
Anybody has an other solution for this problem?

I haven't used this feature since taking a class years ago. I think there is some documentation in either the Beginner or Advanced Annotation class on how to use it. You might contact your CoCreate support channels to see if they can supply you with the pages from the class notes.

The Readme info on broken view says:

This command allows users to create a dimension between two views. It's a possibility to create a "broken view" existing of a detail view and a partial view.

So it sounds like you need a detail and a partial view, not two partial views. If I remember right, you need to create the view you want, create a detail of one end from this view, then convert the original view to a partial view. It may be a requirement that one of the views is a detail of the other.

Well, obvious it concerns both the same enhancement request (I overlooked the one mentioned by you) so you could join / merge those two

and hopefully someone of the CoCreate development-team will use it for the next upcoming release (for what I heart 13.2 in about 2 months, or release 14.0/2006 at the end of the year ;)
