View Full Version : Making 2D drawings with annotation?

So, is it possible to make 2D drawings in Annotation? For example, I want to be able to drawing something to scale (1:1) but scale the view so I don' t have to fake in the dimensions.
I can make a drawing not attached to any owner, but then I can't create views because there is no active view-set (and no way to make one). So I can't put the geometry in a view.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I'm not sure I understand your question.
You can set the scale of any view independently with View > Scale.
The views "know" their respective scales, so dimensioning always "tell the truth".

Steve,
If you want to make a 2D drawing without any 3D, I would highly recommend that you use Drafting.
Annotation is for making 2d drawings FROM 3d models.
Drafting is the 2d only tool that should be used if you don't have a model.

Hi
You must create a part /p1 and attach view set at this part that you can delete when you want. Always put the geometry under a view to maintain correct dimensions and scale.
Thanks

Thanks, luigimilano, that is exactly what I did. I based the drawing off of a junk part, P1, made some views, then deleted P1. I then drew the desired 2D geometry in the various views.
I understand that CoCreate wants me to use 2 different software packages to do my design/drafting work, but I would rather not do that.

Is there a way to turn off the view frames or at least not make them print? I am now getting the following (see attached image) with my annotation-based 2D drawing, and the view frames print. Not to mention that if I print all I get a postage-stamp sized plot. But I can fix that by printing a box. But the view frame is printing. Is there a way to make it not print?

Steve,
before you had deleted the 3D part, you would have had the possibility to update the view.. (yes of an empty dummy part!). Then you would have got a single point (a single pixel) as a representation of the empty part.
You can also 'delete' the view border when you enable the option 'CALC' in the delete command of Annotation. Then its gone for viewing and printing, too.
