Hi,
I have seen, but cant find, the file that sets up the names that are generated during a top down save of an assy w/ design manager.
My question is, can I modify the number of characters that WM uses when generating a 'model no'.
ie
brack-biywykgvr37sdk7p119i
I want:
bracket_angle-kdytkeuyndktwldkn
In other words I want to save more of the orignal name.
Thanks,
Mike Boswell

Hello Mike:
This is a limitation in DDM saving - To not be able to perform a top-down save and retain correct model names. A bottom-up save is the ideal method because this would ensure correct naming structure, i.e. single parts would exist first, then sub-assemblies, then lastly top-levels. In DDM, we saw this as a major limitation within the product and that's one of the many reason a new product was created - Model Manager (MM).
MM is our data management product for Designer Modeling, and it can save assembly structures in either direction with correct names. If you want more info on the latest release of Designer Modeling or MM, click here. (http://www.cocreate.com/products.cfm?ProdFamilyID=3&ProductID=20)
But don't forget to call CoCreate Support and see if they have any suggestions for you on the encrypted names. They will be the ones who can give you the best info on DDM but don't be to surprised if they mention the current product MM.

I also posted this query to CoCreate.
They replied w/ a very useful document which they said they would make available thru the eSupportMarketplace @cocreate .com.
Check out:
Awmc_set_model_sd_default_field_values
Awmc_set_part_sd_default_field_values
Awmc_set_part_sd_ext_default_field_values
in the file democust.m.
I have not made changes yet but it appears simple enough..
