On the home page, for each forum there is a column specifing the number of posts in each Forum. Question I have is: Why if on the home page it states a forum has 27 posts and when I go to that particular forum there is only 6. Am I missing something here or is the number listed on the home page the total number of original posts plus the number of replies to each post. I think it would be better if the number on the home page only showed the number of original posts since this would be less confusing.

Yes, the number is the total of the original (Threads) plus the replies. There is a column showing the number of Threads which are the original posts....subtract the threads from the posts and you get the replies.
You can get a visual on the ratio of Posts to Threads the way it's set up now.
There is a link to view only the new posts at the top of the Forum page. When your done mark them all as read (At the bottom of the Forum page). Next time you visit just click on the View New Posts

Here is some info that may help.
A post is a single message posted by a registered user. A thread is a collection of posts on a particular topic. So a forum might have 27 posts collected into 6 threads. The word thread is a misnomer for the current version of vBulletin, since it is not truly threaded. However version 3 (coming soon) will support true threads.
You might find the postHow To View New Posts (http://www.cocreateusers.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=9#post9) helpful. Bob covered the important items in his reply, but the post contains a few other ideas. If anyone comes up with better techniques for following this forum, please post them.
