Getting bombed by a local Pro-E sales guy. Need some specific suggestions on how to make his demo fail in front of my superiors. We are basically a sheet-metal house, so need some questions or situtions that will show the weaknesses of the history modeler in Pro-E with sheet-metal. I don't want simple answers telling me how bad Pro-E is, rather some real life features and situations that I can look for and discuss during the demo.

1. Make a "C" shaped metal piece with one profile and equal length legs. 2. Punch a hole thru both of the legs at the same time. 3. Next, have them try to extend ONE of the legs that the hole is on. They can't do this, since both legs were created at once they will both extend. They will have to ADD to the leg to make it longer. 4. After they have done this have them move either hole out so it is half on the new section they just added. Since the hole was made thru both legs at the same time, both holes will move together. What will happen here is one hole will be cut in half and one will run off the edge of the leg. I hope this helps, let me know how it turns out. Dave

I am working with both Pro-E and SolidDesigner. So here are a few quarks: 1. You can dynamically rotate/translate any object in SolidDesigner just by using the move command and the dynamic option. In Pro-E you have to set your datum planes to do a simple rotation which takes ten times the effort, in my opinion. 2. No align command in Pro-E 3. Pro-E doesn't have an "Undo" button. 4. SolidDesigner has no parametrics. In Pro-E, when creating a part, if you remove a feature such as a hole, and for example a tab is tied to that hole, you have to redefine that tab in terms of location. In SolidDesigner, if you remove a hole, no other feature is tied to it. I hope this helps, I could go on with other disadvantages, but I would write quite a bit. Good luck on your destruction with Pro-E :)

The easiest way to make Pro/E look bad is to ask them to do a head-to-head comparison against a representitive of your favorite CADD package (I'm assuming it is Solid Designer). Chances are that the Pro/E guys won't show up. I've heard of an instance where they've re-scheduled the head-to-head comparison as many as three times without showing up. They'll claim that the comparison is not fair, and that it is biased against them. They will then contact your supervisor, or even your company president, to tell them that you are not qualified to be in charge of a decision that will affect your company's future. Be prepared for the worst! The Pro/E sales tactics are ruthless.

I don't know if you have already had your PRO/E demo, but in case you haven't here is some more information. Historically, PTC will not like to go off on tangents from their standard demo. They know that this will lead them into problems. Therefore, you must insist that they do certain things for you. They will try to tell you to postpone these things till the end of the demo. Don't agree to that. Tell them you would like to structure the demo and you do not want a the "out of the box" demos that their AEs train for. If you can guide the demo, them you will make them break - I can guarantee it!! Have them make some modifications late in the design from things done early on - this always works. - Sorry if I'm too late - GOOD LUCK!
