Layout speed and file size on Annotation

Dear Group, I use the SD5.1 on C160 system, First I made a model about 10Mbyte assembly model and then try to layout. the layout take to so long long times and 2D filesize was too big(about 50Mbyte). Ofcoure I set up the hidden line on and 3rd angle include isometric view. I konw that the result was different case by case but I can't understand 2d layout filesize big than 3D filesize. Normaly it is too big, sometimes can't handle on ME10. What is the best way to reduced the 2d layout file? Already I tried resoution setup 0.01. jut little bit small than 0.001. After that if I store to workmgr andthen load to me10, the filesize more bigger than store. Please advise to me. Thank you.

I have had similar problems with large assemblies. I was able to reduce the update time for large layouts from 9 hours to under 2 by the following techniques: Modify each view in the layout to remove all parts that aren't visible. Check to confirm the parts are removed from the layout listing in the structure browser. Increase the amount of physical memory to prevent disk swapping. I increased from 256 Mb to nearly 800 Mb on my J210 and saw an improvement. Processor speed however seems to be more important than memory. I used the remote layout utility to pass the layout process to a faster workstation. I also ran the layout on a Dell workstation 400 with a 300 MHz Pentium II processor and 256 Mb RAM which completed in 1 1/2 hours (compare with 9 hours on my clunky 120 MHz J210.)

How large of a file took 9 hours, I have designed complete machines that took only 30 minutes on a 725/100. I think the file was 4 MB.

I try to reply from Japan. There are many internal data about the modification history of parts in 2d layout(MI).One of them,it is called SD_FORMER_ID.If you do not need 3D/2D associativity,to use "Deleting Inheritance Data" command.You will get good response and small MI file.Please read the "personality/goodies/Readme.txt".
