Hi everybody, I build a steel structure in SolidDesigner. The steel structure was then surveyed on site. The surveyor gave me a IGES file that I inserted in my 3D model. Eveything is great so far. As usual, the site survey does not match my 3D model. Now, I want to give him the theoritical location of my steel. The surveyor wants to have a text file of all 3D coordinates. So far, I know how to output an IGES wire frame file. On SolidDesigner v5.0, can I output 3D points coordinates to a text file? Can I do it for a long list of 3D points? Does somebody has a good working solution to my problem? Many thanks, Andre Arsenault LBL-Skysystems, Montreal, Canada

Andre,
when you say you need a text file of "all 3D coordinates" - which 3D coordinates are required here? Coordinates for all vertices in the model? Do you need them sorted for each face/part/whatever or would "coordinate soup" be sufficient?
Claus

Andre,
here are two ideas which you might want to play with:

Integration Kit
The SolidDesigner Integration Kit has functionality to scan the model and inquire its geometry, including edges and vertices. This could be used to generate a report of any format.
IGES "point import"
I know that this is not exactly what the surveyor wants, but what if you had a file which contains the site survey data as IGES point coordinates? With SD 6.0, you could then load this IGES point file together with your steel structure model. This would allow you and the surveyor to visualize differences. If you're interested, I can help with the details of this approach.

Hope this helps,
Claus

Claus, IGES "point import" We presently working with SD v5.0. We should receive our updated v6.0 shortly. Could you please give me more details about that point? Integration Kit I am interested to know more about this for now. It might give me an answer to my present problem. Where could I have more information about this? Thanks, Andre
