I:m working with fairly large parts, involving some freeform surfaces. I am finding quite regularly that when I go to update layouts, the ADU link is only partially successful. Dimensions between actual faces and 2d created shapes (eg blended corner points) are smashed to the top level, and are not able to be gathered back to the correct part. As some drawings are of maybe 30 views, this can be incredibly frustrating and time consuming. The part is not corrupt, and when I load using CHECK_2d in ME10, the annotated drawing is OK. If I delete and re-create the view, then the next update is ok, but not necessarily the one after that. I'm using SD version 5.1 and ME10v7.2 Has anyone any suggestions?

I have seen this happen when the solid model part has been copied, modified and then an update to the 2d drawing is done. This may not be the case for you, but I would make sure that the part is not being copied. Some companies have their defaults set to load the part as copied if the part already exists in the session of SD. I can give you details on why this happens if you want them.

I have experienced many similar anomilies, and have found some workarounds. The part names in the 3d model and the 2d files must agree. Sometimes the engineer will change the name of the model, and the ME10 view names must be changed to restore the element identity links. Another problem can be part ownership. What ever it is in the ME10 file, it has to be the same in the Model. Owner ship cannot be changed in ME10. Verify that the geometry added in ME10 is in the same view part as the 3d element. Check the 3d model for sliver faces. I have seen updates fail because of sliver faces that the SD part checker will accept. Good luck. telnet 212-6679

I have experienced the same results when the SD part name and the ME10 part name are not the same. A layout produced without pathnames attempting to update a ME10 file with pathnames or vice versa will also cause this corruption. As to 2d blends, (fillets?) if you change a linked element in ME10 it will destroy the link to the SD element, and any attached dimension will be lost. Richard Hankey 212-6679
